Mystic Nature
This one is particularly special to me. The image above reflects the spirit in which I wrote the piece. I am fortunate that I am able to spend time at a beautiful lake every summer.
One year, towards the end of the season, I shot several scenes around the lake that I thought conveyed the love I have for it. The footage sat unused for several years until recently when I started to compose this piece. I realized that the images would fit well with the sense of peaceful majesty that characterizes my feeling about the lake.
I then sought some quotes about the beauty and mystique of nature in its quieter moments and added them to the video. The music itself was not yet completed, but upon watching the final video I could hear the direction the music wanted to go. So the video itself became the source for completing the piece.
My overall sense of the natural world as it is shown here is “quiet, mystic majesty”. So the music needed to be melodic with a hint of peaceful restraint. Nothing over the top, not too loud, not too soft. It went through several revisions, removing extraneous sections and instruments.
