Metropolis
This was my first attempt at writing for a feature-length film, the 1926 sci-fi classic, Metropolis.
As I watched it, I could hear in my mind’s ear the rise and fall of the orchestra, synthesizers, and soundscapes. I somewhat frivolously thought, “I’ll just compose an entirely new score!”
So I started working on it and found out what a challenge it is to compose 2.5hrs of non-stop music.
More than once in the project, I found myself thinking this was a bad idea. But there were also moments of excitement and satisfaction when an idea would come to me and it matched the feeling I was getting from the film.
Of course, there have been other interpretations of this movie, so I hope my music does justice to its vision and majesty.
